Key Objective:
As a key member of the environmental risk underwriting department, you will have the role of underwriting a diverse portfolio of environmental risks to the team’s growth, retention, rate change and profit goals while maintaining healthy relationships with our brokers.
Major Responsibilities:
Underwriting all lines of environmental business including:
Premises Pollution Liability (industrial, commercial, institutional, and public sector); Contractors Pollution Liability (operations and project-specific); Specialty casualty (premises pollution/general liability combined-form); Respond to enquiries and assist with management of the TankSafe portfolio.
The role would involve:
Underwriting environmental risk business; Risk selection, coverage negotiation, pricing and rate adequacy on new and renewal business; A strong focus on customer retention and relationship management; Marketing across Ontario, but also in support of our Western & Eastern Branch offices and underwriters; Cross-sell with other Commercial Insurance and Major Risk lines of business including automobile, excess casualty, general liability, property, financial lines; Handle individual risk enquiries/correspondence from brokers and make appropriate decisions; Contribute to projects, as required, to improve the business and continually develops personal skills.

We expect our team to work proactively and collaboratively with each other and with other departments whether that is US Environmental Underwriters, local P&C or Financial lines UW's or branch office underwriters. 1-5 years’ work experience in either General Liability (Construction) or Environmental insurance or environmental consulting industry;Experience with casualty underwriting considered an asset;Post-secondary degree, with a background in Science, Technology, Mathematics, Engineering, Environmental Studies or similar specialization considered an asset CIP/CRM designation or completed CIP/CRM courses considered an asset;Strong oral and written communication skills;Ability to be innovative and creative in order to attract and retain customers;Ability to work both independently and in a team environment;Comfort in working in a deadline-oriented atmosphere;Ability to respond as a team player in a multi-task environment;Demonstrated analytical, decisions-making, and or risk underwriting skills.
