Job Title: Test Data Systems – Lab Support Engineer / Automation Developer

Salary: £34,455 - £43,000 per annum dependent upon experience

Location: Peterborough

Benefits: 

25 days annual leave

Up to 10% Bonus

About IPSD

Caterpillar’s Industrial Power Systems Division (IPSD) designs, tests and manufactures 0.5 to 18L Cat® and Perkins engines that power over 5000 applications including Marine, Petroleum, Industrial Applications, Electric Generators, and Locomotives. We are automation champions - using our skills in coding, system integration and debugging, we develop, integrate, and configure automation and data management software to deliver a comprehensive, feature rich, flexible, optimized and robust set of automated test solutions (logic and infrastructure) that can be used by our internal partners to efficiently develop our next generation of power systems! 

Additional Info

This role is 37h per week

Day Shift based on the Peterborough campus with minimal travel requirements (<5%)

100% on-site role

What You Will Do

Job duties and responsibilities (may include, but are not limited to):

Engage in challenging work, solving real-world engineering problems through collaboration with our global team

Responsible for the successful implementation and deployment of new requirements, features, improvements, and bug fixes within our test automation platforms

Develop our test solutions to provide a robust, maintainable, and cutting-edge platform that works for all our customers’ needs

Work closely within a global team comprised of Product Owners, Software Architects, System Integration Engineers, Automation Developers and Testers

Work with a range of industry leading Automation and Data Acquisition tools including products from leading automotive suppliers such as FEV (Morphee), AVL (Lynx, Puma) and Vector (CANape)

What You Have

Technical Excellence: Knowledge of a given technology and various application methods; ability to develop and provide solutions to significant technical challenges.

Passion for automation and commitment to grow capability within the field of automation development

Bachelor’s degree or time served experience in one of the below disciplines:

Electrical/Electronic Engineering

Mechatronic and/or Robotic Engineering

Software Development / Engineering 

Computer Science / Engineering

Experience with scripting and/or coding in one or more language (Python, C, C++, C#, PowerShell, Batch-script, Bash etc.) and an appetite to further develop scripting and coding ability within the role (with training, Coaching and support!)

Strong technical understanding of Electrical, Electronic or Automation systems

Troubleshooting Technical Problems: Knowledge of troubleshooting approaches, tools and techniques; ability to anticipate, detect and resolve technical problems in a manufacturing environment.

Effective Communications: Understanding of effective communication concepts, tools and techniques; ability to effectively transmit, receive, and accurately interpret ideas, information, and needs through the application of appropriate communication behaviors.

Accuracy and Attention to Detail: Understanding the necessity and value of accuracy; ability to complete tasks with high levels of precision.
