 JOB PURPOSE:

This position is for a Technical Lead to support delivery of vertically integrated power solutions for Caterpillar’s Electric Power Division (EPD). The role acts as a single point of contact for all technical interactions with IPSD Medium Engines for assigned genset New Product Introduction (NPI) and current product projects.

Job Duties/Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

Build strong customer counterpart relationships.Develop a comprehensive internal network of product & process Subject Matter Experts (SME) and collaborators.This role will require acquiring or growing knowledge of IPSD products and services to support customer projects.Work closely with the EPD and IPSD Product / Engineering teams to manage & deliver internal combustion engine power system integration projects on time through the execution of the Requirements Management and Application & Installation sign-off processes.You will be responsible for helping align IPSD and EPD project deliverables and timelines.Manage technical related installation issues through the NPI development process.Respond to technical queries from customer Engineering contacts supporting contract tenders, Design to Order or customer issues.Work with the Account Management team to track product specifications and material/ development costs.Prepare and/or present stakeholder materials.This is a diverse role which will require an ability to work and collaborate across cultures, time zones and roles globally.

Basic Qualifications:

BE Mechanical engineering with minimum 14 or more years of relevant experience in engine industry (or)ME / MTech Mechanical engineering (specialization in IC engines / engineering design / thermal engineering) with 12 or more years of relevant experience in engine industry (ideal candidate)

Top Candidates will also have:

Detailed understanding of diesel engine performance, design, field testing, manufacturing and/or quality systems.Knowledge of engine calibration and/or software development and calibration.Product design change management and associated communication requirements.Generator Set design, development (test and validation) or Product Support experience.Structured issue investigation and resolution management. E.g. 6 Sigma DMAIC.

You will be able apply knowledge of product and services appropriately to diverse situations to:

Oversee genset integration and sign-off activities for concurrent projectsMonitors regulatory and environmental issues and considerations.

Technical Excellence:

The successful candidate will have demonstrable knowledge of diesel engines and aftertreatment systems and application considerations, including the ability to develop and provide solutions to technical challenges. This will involve:

Leading power system selection and delivery of projects to meet time, cost and quality targets.Management of Application & Installation (A&I) requirements with the customer, leading to A&I sign off ahead of genset production start.Conduct, or contribute to, Product Engineering Manager (PEM) and Design Review / Gateway Readiness reviews, providing comprehensive updates on installation development and sign-off status, identified risks / issues and propose appropriate mitigation actions.Leading power system specification support through the product life cycle and managing associated changesMediate between Industrial Power Systems Division and EPD to maximise Enterprise value and ensure successful resolution of technical integration issues.Support Continuous Product Improvement (CPI) project, adding knowledge on machine installations.

Stay informed of New Product Development issues and ensure that the impact to customers is understood and communicated.

Managing Multiple Priorities & Project Management:

Multiple concurrent workstreams with different teams and deadlines requires:

Knowledge of effective project management strategies and tactics; ability to plan, organise, monitor and control concurrent projects.Shifting focus among several efforts as required by changing priorities.A proven capability to assign and manage actions, holding others to account for meeting commitments.Leading customer collaboration events such as product development workshops.Coaching others in communication with project stakeholders.

Team Management:

This role does not have direct reports but requires extensive cross-functional collaboration. Accordingly, it necessitates:

Leading the definition of team mission and objectives for a variety of teams.Ensuring that team members are on board, unified, and moving in the same direction.Communication both within the team and to stakeholders.

Requirements Analysis:

Knowledge of tools, methods, and techniques of requirement analysis are necessary; the ability to elicit, analyse and record required product mechanical and performance functionality requirements

Troubleshooting Technical Problems & Analytical Thinking:

This role requires knowledge of troubleshooting approaches, tools and techniques and the ability to anticipate, detect and resolve technical problems. This may include use of resources such as CAD models, engineering drawings, FMEAs, manufacturing instructions / standard work, PPAPs, design change records, data logging, warranty systems and tools such as 8D, Ishikawa/Fishbone analysis and more. This will require the successful candidate to:

Organise and prioritise the sequence of steps to be taken to remedy the situation.Identify many possible causes for a problem based on prior experience and current research.Quantify the costs, benefits, risks and chances for success before recommending a course of action.Approach a complex problem by breaking it down into its component parts.

Product Design and Development:

This role does not include design or calibration responsibilities but requires extensive knowledge of product features; ability to influence the design, tuning, build and development of diesel engines, aftertreatment systems and construction equipment from concept through to production
