The Shipping Team is a stand-alone profit centre and service provider for ocean freight services within Anglo American Marketing.

As part of its role, Shipping is the in house ocean freight service provider for the Marketing Business, services which includes, but are not limited to commercial freight provision, technical operations, safety and regulatory support and market information. Shipping leverages off the Anglo American cargo base to generate additional earnings from ocean freight activity by engaging in third party freight activity. Using global scale and strength, the team aims to optimise the marine activities and provide safe, reliable, sustainable and competitive freight to the commodity businesses, their customers and further into Shipping’s own customer base.

Job Description

The Purpose of this role is to Anglo American shipping's daily voyage operations and post fixture activities of the chartered fleet.

Responsbilities include:

Performance & Delivery 

Operate fleet of T/C and V/C shipsManage distribution of Captain’s Instructions, Agent Instructions, bunkering procedures to all ships and onshore parties.Coordinate for the pre-stow plan by the considering the port restrictionsMonitor, follow-up and execute operational procedures on the chartered fleet.Update the vessels’ movement in the shipping system in a timely manner.Monitor the vessels performance trend and take necessary remedial actions to optimize by using weather routing systems or similar.Manage issuing LOIs if required (only standard P&L Club format is acceptable)Bunker bookingCounter-checking the owner freight invoice timely, ensure 100% accuracyPrepare  invoice to Business Units and Third Parties in a timely manner according to  terms and conditionsNegotiate with owners of laytime calculations strictly in accordance with C/P terms and conditions and close the voyage account according to C/P.Prepare Hire statement for T/C-out ships and arrange hire payment for T/C-ins

Compliance 

Ensure strict compliance with all governing flag states, class regulations, International SafetyManagement and International Ship and Port Security Regulation issues with the chartered and managed fleet.

Sustainability & Social

Making sure our shipments are executed in a sustainable manner putting safety firstUnderstanding the social and environmental impacts of our commercial decisions

People & Teams

Assist chartering team in Negotiating terms and conditions and act as the interface with charter parties involved.Interface between the chartering managers, marketing and sales agents and manage the Post Fixture process of the chartered fleet.Interact with the commodity marketing teams and address their needs and concernsCooperate with Third Party Supplier in operating shipsLiaise and interface with the commodity teams to develop dry bulk freight plans and forecast, including the utilisation of their dry bulk knowledge to increase delivered sales

 

QualificationsPreferred - Degree educated with a qualification (BSc/MA/MSc) in Shipping, Economics, Commodity trade or similar.ICS qualification an advantageAn understanding of the shipping markets macro environments and the commercial considerations affecting transactions.Familiar with international shipping terms for dry bulk marketMin 3 years’ experience in commercial operations of various bulk cargoesStrong ability to prioritise deliverables under pressure.

Specific Knowledge requirements:

Ship Management & Commercial Ship OperationsLegislation requirements (ISM, ISPS, IMO)Ocean Transport principlesCharter-party knowledgeGood knowledge of trades, cargoes and ports in the Atlantic and Mediterranean basins.Compliance with safety practices and norms
