Your Opportunity
In this role, you will draw on your strong buildings engineering knowledge and deep industry experience to consistently produce superior deliverables that meet project requirements and exceed project manager and client expectations.
Your Key Responsibilities
- Serves as the electrical task lead on assigned projects, including power system studies such as load flow analysis, short-circuit analysis, protective coordination, and arc-flash studies, with specific application and considerations for healthcare essential electrical systems (EES) and critical care areas.
- Applies electrical engineering skills to develop solutions for complex engineering challenges, including those unique to healthcare facilities like maintaining uninterrupted power, minimizing electrical interference with medical equipment, and adhering to stringent safety standards.
- Prepares calculations, basis-of-design narratives, drawing documentation, system designs, and technical specifications, ensuring compliance with relevant healthcare-specific electrical codes and standards.
- Collaborates with project managers and design teams to ensure a coordinated approach, paying particular attention to the integration of medical equipment power and grounding requirements with overall building systems in healthcare projects.
- Mentors junior engineering staff and provides training and guidance.
- Delegates tasks effectively to production support staff, ensuring they understand the specific requirements and sensitivities of healthcare electrical documentation.
- Reviews drawings and ensures compliance with electrical and safety codes, with a strong focus on the stringent safety regulations applicable to patient care areas and essential electrical systems in healthcare facilities.
- Leads or contributes to the creation and revision of technical specifications, incorporating specific requirements for healthcare electrical equipment.
- Resolves design conflicts and provides value-added recommendations, considering the critical operational needs and patient safety requirements of healthcare environments.
- Stays updated on industry trends and technologies to enhance project outcomes, including advancements in medical equipment power integration, resilient power systems for hospitals, and infection control considerations in electrical design.
- Actively pursues ongoing learning through internal and external training programs, with a focus on healthcare-specific electrical design standards, best practices, and emerging technologies in the medical field.
Your Capabilities and Credentials required
- Deep buildings electrical design knowledge, including but not limited to electrical, lighting, and fire/life safety systems, device layouts, circuiting, panel schedules and load calcs, riser diagrams, and schedules, with a strong understanding of the specific requirements for healthcare facilities, such as essential electrical systems, patient safety grounding, isolated power systems, and medical equipment power integration.
- Ability to prepare and review detailed drawings and specifications, ensuring compliance with healthcare-specific electrical codes and standards and incorporating details critical for medical environments.
- Experience integrating electrical design with architectural, mechanical, and structural disciplines, with specific experience in coordinating with medical equipment planning and installation requirements in healthcare projects.
- Proficiency in applicable codes and standards, with demonstrated expertise in applying healthcare-specific electrical codes and standards.
- Strong problem-solving, organizational, and analytical skills, with the ability to address the unique challenges and critical safety considerations inherent in healthcare electrical design.
- Ability to present a professional and technically knowledgeable presence, particularly in communicating the complexities and critical aspects of healthcare electrical design to clients and stakeholders.
- Familiarity with sustainable design principles, including their application within the healthcare sector, considering energy efficiency and environmental impact in medical facilities.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Familiarity with CAD and Building Information Modeling (BIM) software; in particular, AutoCAD MEP and Revit MEP, with proven ability to model and document healthcare electrical systems accurately, including medical equipment connections and spatial coordination.
- Knowledge of construction delivery processes.
- Familiarity with various construction delivery process.
Preferred
- Professional experience in buildings electrical design for additional market segments in which we operate (healthcare, education, military and commercial), with significant and demonstrable experience specifically in the healthcare sector, including successful completion of healthcare electrical design projects.
- Familiarity with various construction delivery processes, with a strong preference for experience leading or significantly contributing to Design-Build healthcare projects.
- Knowledge of specialty electrical or lighting calculation applications, including proficiency in software used for healthcare-specific calculations such as essential electrical system load analysis, lighting design for patient care areas.
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in related field
- Minimum 7+ years of relevant experience.
- Healthcare experience under OSHPD/HCAI preferred.
