Your role and responsibilitiesIn this role, you will have the opportunity to explore emerging technologies, creates intellectual property, and strengthens existing and future ABB offerings. We also provide R&D consultancy services to ABB Divisions and reap the benefits of open innovation by collaborating with Universities and startup companies. You will work in dynamic and creative teams, with a wide range of experience and expertise, carrying out applied research projects developing software engineering techniques to build intelligent systems for process industries.The work model for the role is Hybrid. #LI-HybridThis role contributes to the India Corporate Research Center (INCRC), located in Bangalore.•\tAssisting research scientists in researching, developing, testing, and optimizing ML models for industrial automation i.e. working with sensor data, time series, and process logs for preprocessing, feature engineering, and model experimentation.•\tBuild and test AI prototypes using Python, TensorFlow/PyTorch, and industrial AI tools, evaluating model performance on industrial benchmarks, simulations, and real-world data, while optimizing for GPU efficiency, distributed training, and MLOps workflows.•\tCollaborate with domain experts to define AI-driven solutions for industrial process challenges, supporting use case exploration, requirement gathering, and feasibility analysis.•\tAssess AI models using key industrial metrics (accuracy, robustness, explainability, scalability), develop visual dashboards, support pilot projects and AI integration into industrial automation systems.•\tContribute to knowledge sharing, technical documentation, reports, and research publications.
Qualifications for the role\tPursuing a full time Master’s or Ph.D. in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Data Science, or a related field, as a bona fide student, during the entire tenure of internship and with a no objection certificate from the placement center of the Institute.\tProgramming: Proficiency in Python, TensorFlow/PyTorch, and Scikit-learn for ML development.\tUnderstanding of supervised/unsupervised learning, time series analysis, deep learning (including foundation models) and reinforcement learning. Understanding of statistics including hypothesis testing, confidence intervals etc.\tUnderstanding of time-series foundation models is advantageous.\tShould have ability to collaborate and communicate effectively in English with internal and external partners.\tLiving ABB’s core values of safety and integrity, which means taking responsibility for your own actions while caring for your colleagues and the business.
