What You'll Be Doing

Job Scope: The Process Control Engineer will design, install, maintain, support, and improve site process automation systems. This position will serve as a key technical resource to lead and support plant optimization efforts regarding capacity, cost, quality, and environmental improvements utilizing process control techniques at the plant located in Okmulgee, OK.

Primary responsibilities will include but not be limited to:

Designs and develops industrial control system solutions including Distributed Control System (DCS) Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) and Human Machine Interface (HMI) programs to address operational needs for new construction projects, maintenance projects or operational requests.

Ensure compliance with company Cybersecurity efforts through evaluation, configuration and deployment of secure solutions for Operation Technology (OT) devices

Monitor KPI's for controls equipment, e.g. alarm system metrics, control loop performance, advanced control utilization, etc. and initiate corrective actions as necessary

Optimize and automate plant controls with focus on improving facility cost-effectiveness and plant production capacity.

Work with plant management, engineers, maintenance and contractors and to provide expert guidance; leadership and assistance to facility Control System Specialists (upgrade projects, troubleshooting, etc.)

Oversee the field construction, verification of proper installation, performance of loop checks and the oversight of final commissioning of DCS/PLC equipment associated with maintenance or capital projects.

Communicate and maintain proper documentation related to the DCS system status, changes, and coordinate/conduct personnel training for such related items as necessary.

Provide technical support for process safety efforts, such as Process Hazard Assessment (PHA) and Management of Change (MOC).

Investigate new technology, along with methods to reduce hardware costs and labor expenses as it relates to automation.

Provide automation solution estimates to project managers, facility engineers, and others.

 Provide project management and oversight for assigned projects, including expansion, regulatory and modification projects. Follow Project Life Cycle process to ensure that all controls projects meet quality, cost and schedule objectives.

Support control system and safety instrumented system (SIS)/ programmable logic controller (PLC) maintenance and test planning as required, software upgrades, emergency shutdown (ESD) testing, offline and online testing, and coordination of activities with/without plant shutdowns.

Subject Matter Expert (SME) on control system networking and industrial instrumentation devices.

Ideal Background

Education: Bachelor or Master of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited university is required.  

Registration: Professional Engineering registration is highly preferred.  

Experience: Requires 3+ years of relevant industrial experience in process control system application for industrial sites. 5+ years of experience designing, commissioning and maintenance of DCS based control systems in 24/7 manufacturing facility is preferred.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Demonstrated ability to analyze complex data, draw conclusions and then develop and execute problem solutions

Understanding of ICS architecture and environment including operational aspects such as reliability, redundancy, high availability, remote support, business continuity and disaster recovery

Demonstrated high level of integrity, thoroughness, creativity, flexibility, initiative, and productive, collaborative teamwork is a must

Experience with Delta V, Allen Bradley and PI systems is desirable

In the field troubleshooting skills for wiring & instrumentation

Excellent written and verbal communication skills; excellent interpersonal communication skills are necessary

Ability to independently direct & prioritize one’s own work.

Continuous improvement experience

Ability to plan, prioritize, and execute controls projects effectively

Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously under various deadlines

SME for SIS and SIL rated systems in a PSM facility

Outstanding communication and coordination skills and demonstrated team leadership

Experience with DCS systems (DeltaV / Ovation, Siemens PCS7 / OSx, or Honeywell Experion) 

Experience with PLC equipment (ex. Allen-Bradley, Siemens, GE) 

Project management experience  

Physical Requirements

Ability to work hours exceeding 40 hours per week over varying shifts as needed

Ability to work in variable temperature conditions depending on the season

Ability to work in dusty environments

Ability to grasp, push, pull, and lift up to 50 pounds

Ability to walk or stand for several hours per day, with frequent need to climb ladders and stairs

Visual acuity requirements include normal depth perception and 20/30 vision with or without correction

Use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) conforming to Level C (general) and Level A (packaging) GMP standards

Must follow site, state, and federal guidelines concerning safety and environmental protection
