Principal Structural Engineer - Dams - ( 250001CB ) **Description** Communities are fundamental. Our Water Division is experiencing significant growth, presenting the opportunity for a **Principal Structural Engineer - Dams** based in our Sydney team and specifically within our West Region Delivery Team for Sydney Water. The team has a strong focus on the delivery of projects. This position is crucial for providing technical expertise during project delivery and leading technical teams to develop and deliver the most appropriate technical solution for key water projects. **About the role:** The Principal Structural Engineer is accountable for leading carrying out/supervising structural consulting work including client management, scoping/securing projects, project management and supervision of other team members as well as undertaking and /or supervising the full range of structural analyses and designs undertaken by Stantec. Will provide technical expertise and leadership in all aspects of structural engineering and in ongoing contribution to the development of Stantec’s business goals and objectives of the Strategic Plan and developing key client relationships. **Essential Functions:** **Technical Capabilities** + Provide technical leadership on a range of water/wastewater, civil and building-related projects through developing, scoping, leading and undertaking design, supervision and review. + Provide technical expertise, direction, and coaching in terms of design, task allocation, monitoring of project progress and resourcing. + Provide technical capabilities in water/wastewater, civil and building structures. + Provide advice, solutions and project outcomes that create value for clients and provide Stantec with a differentiator in the market. + Plan, program, and coordinate assigned multidisciplinary projects as Project Structural Lead to deliver agreed-upon outputs on budget, on time, and to agreed-upon quality standards. + Deliver appropriately agreed quality of designs taking into consideration client project brief and risk appetite, project drivers, professional obligations and Stantec's reputation. + Provide effective technical and professional leadership/mentoring to intermediate/junior team members with a view to succession planning and building the overall technical capability of the team. + Prepare sketches and markups for drafting. Review drawings for completion, accuracy and risks in the design and construction. + Maintain appropriate technical and professional qualifications. + Demonstrate team leadership and project management principles while conducting structural engineering activities. + Establish and advance technical procedures, design processes and quality assurance for the structural engineering team. **Client Relationships (Internal and External)** + Develop strong working relationships with clients by delivering the highest level of service and understanding their respective business drivers. + Proactively liaise with clients to ensure that their requirements are met, they are involved in the project execution and that any concerns are heard and addressed with no surprises at delivery. + Develop new client relationships to help expand Stantec's market share and achieve the Goals of the Water Business Centre. **Business Development** + Prepare expressions of interest, proposals and marketing initiatives. + Provide leadership on specific business development actions with other relevant Stantec staff. + Complete all work in line with Stantec Core Values and in accordance with the Stantec Quality Systems and Project Quality Procedures **Leadership** + Lead multidisciplinary projects as the lead structural engineer + Mentor junior structural staff by coaching within projects and ensuring technical advancements are made. + Coach the professional development of juniors through engagement with industry bodies. + Provide support to Group Leaders and Project Managers within Stantec. **Qualifications** **To be successful for this role you'll present:** + Tertiary qualification in relevant engineering field. + Chartered Engineer or working towards. + 8 years’ experience in an engineering consultancy. + Leadership abilities including managing subcontractors and multidisciplinary teams. + Knowledge of structural engineering / dams/hydro and the delivery environment. + Highly developed problem solving and negotiation skills to resolve disputes that arise. + Strong understanding of D&C or alternative delivery projects. + Solid report writing with the ability to tell a compelling story. + Proficient in Project Management Tools, MS Project, Power BI. + Previous experience working with Sydney Water is desirable. **So, what do we offer to enable your next career step?** With an attractive salary and vibrant culture, we offer many benefits to ensure your professional development and wellbeing. + Genuine Flexible Working Arrangements – Including options to work part time, on school holiday term contracts, and to work from home and/or remotely. + Learning and Talent Development Programs and training. + Purchasing up to four weeks additional leave. + Professional Registration and Memberships. + Salary Continuance Insurance (SCI) and Salary Packaging. + Employee Resource Groups such as Women@Stantec and Pride@Stantec, with the aim to achieve a genuinely inclusive and diverse workforce. + Connecting employees across Stantec through our Developing Professionals Group. + Mental Health and Wellbeing Programs including Employee Assistance Program. + Service Recognition Awards. **About us** The Stantec community unites approximately 30,000 employees working in over 400 locations across six continents.
