What You'll Be Doing

Job Scope: Generally responsible for performing all aspects for complete designs of small and large mechanical engineering assignments using theoretical knowledge and practical design methods. This work will be performed under general supervision.  

Primary responsibilities will include but not be limited to:

Develop and/or review designs and installations to ensure correctness and compliance with site standards, applicable codes (ASME, API, TEMA…), regulatory requirements and project deliverables

Responsible for the mechanical design basis for plant projects, includes knowledge of structural, foundations, piping, and equipment(rotating, fixed).

Field experience and understanding of restrictions associated with working in an operating plant

Lead the development of mechanical construction bid packages

Lead team reviews and approve vendor supplied equipment or systems

Data sheet development for manufactured systems or equipment

Confident in recommending options for efficient alternative solutions

Ability to evaluate deliverables and make recommendations for qualified resource needs

Work with contractors to ensure we get quality craftsmanship

Work within project teams to produce “right sized” design deliverables

Ideal Background

Education: Bachelor or Master of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited university is required.  

Registration: Professional Engineering registration is highly preferred.  

Experience: This position requires 3+ years of relevant industrial experience in mechanical engineering.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Developing cost estimates / scopes consistent with the stage gate phases

Self-starter, able to work with minimal supervision

Confident in providing creative, cost effective solutions

Provide Engineering man-hour estimates that support deliverables

Development of piping system designs and equipment layouts

Proficient writing and evaluating equipment specification sheets

Ability to support multiple projects simultaneously to meet schedules

Make sound technical decisions based on good engineering practices

Actively participate and “champion” site’s safety initiatives

Good interpersonal communication skills to effectively interact within a team environment

Sound organizational skills that build trust in meeting commitments

Demonstrates the ability to function and respond to changing priorities

Comfortable communicating among various levels of the organization

Leadership traits that enhance the project team effectiveness

Experience and basic knowledge of rotating and fixed equipment designs

Commitment to meeting project timelines

Familiar with Process Industry Practices

Understanding of Risk Assessment evaluations and Constructability reviews

Physical Requirements:

Ability to sit, stand, or walk for long periods of time.
