About IPSD 

Caterpillar’s Industrial Power Systems Division (IPSD) designs, tests and manufactures 0.5 to 18L engines that not only power Caterpillar machines, but also power over 5000 other applications including Marine, Petroleum, Industrial Applications, Electric Generators, and Locomotives. Job Summary 

As a Maintenance Technician III at Caterpillar, you’ll bring your expertise to ensure the reliability and efficiency of our advanced production systems. You’ll be responsible for performing advanced mechanical, electrical, and CNC maintenance in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. This role includes troubleshooting, diagnosing, and repairing complex machinery and equipment, including motors, pumps, electrical panels, and CNC machines. The Maintenance Technician III will adhere to safety protocols, and mentor junior technicians. This position requires extensive experience in equipment maintenance, technical problem-solving, and leadership in a manufacturing setting. What you will do: 

Perform preventive, corrective, and predictive maintenance on production, material-handling and high-tech automated equipment in the facility’s buildings, in accordance with work orders and technical documentation  

Respond to operational calls for troubleshooting/diagnosing problems with assembly systems and equipment 

Operate, troubleshoot, and repair electrical and mechanical assembly (i.e., fork trucks, conveyors, and robotic equipment) 

Exercise knowledge of industrial electricity, including single-phase and three-phase power, motors, protective devices, and photo sensors 

Respond to service requests with little or no supervision and without interrupting production operations 

Provide professional development and on-the-job training to level 1 and 2 maintenance technicians  

Work as a contributing member of the maintenance team to provide the best service and maximize uptime of the production facilities 

Monitor maintenance upkeep checklists to ensure efficient equipment operation 

Complete work order processes documentation for complete work history and parts inventory tracking 

Submit and assist with the creation and resolution of Continuous Improvement Cards 

Document and correct safety issues to maintain a safe work environment 

Work cooperatively as a team with engineering, operations, logistics, janitorial, quality, and environmental health and safety departments  

  

What you will have: 

Minimum of 5 years of work experience in maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing industrial/electrical production equipment in a manufacturing or operations environment or possess a relevant certification or degree in lieu of experience 

Advanced experience using hand tools, power tools, and basic maintenance tasks like lubrication, cleaning, and inspections 

Advanced mechanical knowledge of basic machines (pulleys, levers, etc.), pneumatics, hydraulics, gears, reducers, bearings, lubrication theory, drive components (sheaves, sprockets, chain belts, take-ups), and equipment alignment. 

Advanced experience with electronics such as photo sensors, PLCs, remote I/Os, servo drives, and variable frequency drives 

Ability to mentor and train junior technicians, lead teams, and oversee large maintenance projects 

  

What would make you a top candidate: 

Experience working in a team environment and willingness to train/mentor less experienced technicians  

Advanced knowledge with AC/DC theory, relays, switches, solenoids, fuses, breakers, power generation and distribution (including 480V 3-phase), electrical safety, lockout/tagout procedures, National Electric Code, digital multimeter operation, and motor theory and protection  

Advanced knowledge with mechanical knowledge of basic machines (pulleys, levers, etc.), pneumatics, hydraulics, gears, reducers, bearings, lubrication theory, drive components (sheaves, sprockets, chain belts, take-ups), and equipment alignment. 

Advanced knowledge with PM procedures, including performing PMs, logging completion, etc. 

Advanced knowledge with production facility’s systems, including conveyors, robotic equipment, and (ASRS, AKL, and Auto Guided Vehicles (AGVs))  

Advanced knowledge with reading and understand mechanical and building blueprints as well as electrical schematics 

Advanced experience with all phases of cutting and welding 

 

  

Physical Requirements: 

Ability to sit or stand for prolonged periods of time 

Ability to perform repetitive operations 

Ability to lift up to 35 lbs.

2nd Shift will receive a 7% Shift Premium  

Shift Information: Group 1 Monday-Thursday 4:30pm-3:00am, Group 2 Tuesday-Friday 4:30pm-3:00am

Summary Pay Range:

$28.85 - $38.10
