Your role and responsibilities

Do you want to explore the field of Generative AI for Automation Engineering and support industrial research projects with your skills? Then join ABB, a global key player in industrial automation and smart electrification, as an intern or to write you master thesis. Apply your competence and grow personally in a challenging and fascinating environment. In ABB’s Research Center in Mannheim Germany, we target innovating digital industries as well as sus-tainable electrification systems. We contribute to these goals with software architecture design, ap-plying latest software technologies, and researching software tools for efficient automation engineer-ing. Become a member of our team and be part of our research projects.The following tasks and responsibilities will be part of your role:•\tResearch on Generative AI, e.g., agentic workflows, chain-of-thought approaches, advanced retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), and prompt engineering applied to the domain of industrial automation•\tFind out capabilities and limitations of novel code generation methods by testing them in challenging industrial automation projects•\tPrototypical implementation as a proof-of-concept (e.g., using Python, C#, LangChain, Azure)•\tSystematic evaluation and documentation of results and learnings

Qualifications for the role

Background in computer science, soft-ware and systems engineering, information technology, electrical/automation engineering (or a related subject) Experience with software development in Python or other languagesAdditional experience in creating LLM applications using state-of-the art methods and tools is a plusCurious about new technologies and want to tackle challenges collaboratively and independentlySound English skills in speaking and writing required by an international team
