HVDC/FACTS Service \u2013 Customer Applications Engineer and Tendering Manager
Job Description SummaryReporting to the HVDC FACTS Service Operations Manager, the Customer Applications Engineer and Tendering manager will serve as the point to develop technical solutions and technical offers to Utility and Industrial customers within North America (NAM).

Will support the inquiry to order (ITO) process in response to customer requests for quotations.

Responsibilities:

In this role the Customer Applications Engineer and Tendering Manager will:

Serve as the technological point person for the business for the entire Inquiry to Order (ITO) phase. Provides technical expertise and develops technical solutions (configuration, performance estimation, economics, etc.) as part of the pre-ITO (requisition) process while interfacing with the commercial team. Drive proposal process from lead thru request for quote (RFQ) to proposal and order.  Manage mainly complex FACTS Service offers for North America and other regions from the opportunity identification to the execution of the purchase order.Provide technical support to create subcontractors and power equipment bid packagesCollaborate closely with the Sales Managers to prepare and submit comprehensive technical and commercial tenders to customers.Augment the commercial team for customer presentations of technical capabilities and proposalsDeliver high technical quality of GE’s proposals including processes & programs that make the proposals more accepted (compliant or clarified), effective, and cost competitive to the cusomer with reduced overall-performance risk.  Proposal must be clear, provide customer value, and demonstrate how GE meets their specification requirement.Responsible for technical and commerical proposal accuracy including technical specifications & clarifications/ assumptions/ exceptions, quantifying design and deliverables, installation work scope definition, cost allocation, bill of materials, and estimation of engineering, installation and testing/commissioning based on customer specifications and/or industry standards, sourcing, and historical data.Be able to lead a complex bid process and liaise in a timely manner with the different departments and internal business units to make sure GE can answer respecting the deadlines and complying with the customer request or at least listing and negotiating the exceptionsWrite technical specifications for equipment and services, working with PM's & Sourcing to manage quotes and vendor responses.Work with purchasing to support and obtain quotes for service estimates and with engineering to make sure GE's offer is complying with the customer's RFQUtilize SFDC/SPEAK4GE for opportunity creation and management of the opportunity through the commercial process.

Required Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering with exposure to  industrial / utility / generation/renewable marketMinimum of 5 years of applications engineering and/or tenderingMinimum 6 years of experience with design, studies, specifications, estimating, and construction experience in substation, transmission, or power generation projects for the power generation/distribution/transmission industryAbility and willingness to travel 30% of the time, including international, and must comply with all relevant company travel and tax policies 

Desired Characteristics:

Bilingual English/FrenchBasic expertise in the design of Power Transmission and Distribution equipment & systems, electrical substation, and protection devices.  Knowledge of equipment installation, construction, and field operations.Knowledge of high-voltage systems in the areas of High Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) power systems, Flexible AC Transmission Systems (FACTS), Conventional AC substations.Has knowledge of best practices and how own area integrates with others; has working knowledge of competition and the factors that differentiate them in the market.Uses judgment to make decisions or solve moderately complex tasks or problems in areas of operational/product management, manufacturing, technology, or engineering.Proven experience in services, sales and customer facing roles with multi-million-dollar budgets & performance-based Service contractsGood presence in front of the customer with demonstrated commercial experienceStress Tolerance related to many deadlines to be respected;Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to build and maintain relationships with a range of internal and external stakeholders, gain acceptance and negotiate successful outcomes with customers.  Leadership skills (strategic vision, convincing & influencing) is mandatory
