The successful candidate will write fact checks in the public interest and in response to requests from social media clients. They will also be adept at identifying and proposing items that would benefit from fact-checking based on information or misinformation circulating across social media, with particular focus on Israel.
The job requires an unwavering commitment to the Reuters Trust Principles to ensure unbiased and balanced reporting. This is particularly vital in relation to Reuters Middle East coverage where reporting and fact-checking face very close public scrutiny.
The role demands a team player, ready to coordinate with colleagues in Israel and the Palestinian Territories, the Middle East and beyond when fact-checking stories that may be local, regional or international in nature. The work will involve reaching out to and cooperating with correspondents in Reuters bureaus, reporters in Reuters regional breaking new hubs and Reuters visuals journalists in various locations, including those involved in visual verification.
In addition to the primary role of delivering fact-checking reports, the successful candidate will work closely with our Middle East Breaking News Hub and colleagues in the Reuters Jerusalem and other Middle East bureaus in monitoring and reporting breaking news. The work will be expected to include, but not limited to, responding to requests for official or other comment, helping out with Hebrew-to-English translations and monitoring relevant Hebrew and other television, news and social media feeds.
The producer will be ready to alert breaking news hub colleagues when required. As the role develops, the producer should be ready, on some occasions, to write Reuters news stories, provided this does not conflict with fact-checking demands. The role will require a journalist comfortable in reading, writing and speaking both Hebrew and English to a high degree of fluency. This role has a daytime shift pattern and may include occasional weekend shifts.
