Caterpillar’s Electrification & Energy Solutions (E&ES) Division will focus on delivering advanced electrified power train, zero-emissions products/technologies, and the solutions and services associated with these technologies. JOB PURPOSE:

An Electric Powertrain (ePowertrain) includes a power source such as battery and possibly fuel cell, power electronics, and electric drivetrain components combined via controls into an electric powertrain system. As an ePowertrain Engineering Specialist in the ePowertrain System team, you will be joining an innovative team on the cutting edge of electrification.  The ePowertrain team is part of the Electrification & Energy Solutions Division and is a full electric powertrain solution partner for all Caterpillar machines.  You will be responsible for virtual product development of e-powertrain solutions across multiple NTI/NPI programs and will work with L6 Product Groups, L5 Product Architecting & Strategy team, L5 ePowertrain systems integration team, L5 ePowertrain controls team, and L3-L4 component teams to support their programs with requirements definition, with validation teams to support FMEA based planning, and PPRD to ensure proper validation of advanced ePowertrain components and systems supporting a wide variety of new product development and new technology investigation projects. Your role will be critical to establishing a simulation center of excellence in the ePowertrain system, component & control solutions domain, delivering world-class solutions, and in mentoring and coaching team members.

 What you will do:    

Lead virtual product development of full electric powertrain configurations for a diverse range of machine platforms and collaborate with teams to define and meet targets for deliverables and timing of virtual, laboratory, and testbed demonstratorsProvide estimates of cost and duration for completing simulation tasks for ePowertrain system, subsystem, or component design teams & ensure component/sub system models are built on time through effective communicationCollaborate with System, Component & Control Technical Leads & Product Architects to develop VPD models that can be leveraged for requirements generation, FMEA analysis, techno-economic architecting analysis, MiL/HiL/PiL/SiL applications & validation studiesCoordinate analysis and model development to align with Product Architecting & NTI, NPI, CPI project timelines, and facilitate the on-time delivery of digital twin solutionsDevelop ePowertrain models using software packages such as MATLAB/Simulink/Simscape, Amesim /Studio/HEEDS (Simcenter), Ansys/Twin Builder/ Optislang, Dynasty, GT Suite, or equivalent tools and via scripting (Python/Matlab).Develop and/or deploy frameworks for complex multi-objective optimization problems that offer the best value to the customer incorporating advanced techniques such as machine learning, generative AI based engineering and optimal/model predictive controlsSupport maintenance and upkeep of virtual garages and facilitate version control and management of libraries in conjunction with developersCollaborate with process partners and product groups to deliver high quality simulation progress reports on time and in a proactive fashion

  

What you have:

Degree Requirement: Bachelor’s degree or higher in Electrical, Mechanical, Aerospace, Energy/Power Systems Engineering or equivalent

Technical Excellence: Experienced in design and analysis associated with electric powertrain system/subsystem/component design, simulation and/or control. Ability to develop and provide solutions for significant technical challenges in these areas.
 Level Extensive Experience:

Product development lifecycle experience, leading a proof-of-concept/concept to production launch on electric drive systems, sub systems and/or components.Experience in 1D physics-based simulation for vehicular applications for series/hybrid/battery electric powertrain sub systems like batteries, electric motors, power converters, engines, transmissions.Advises others on the assessment and provision of all technical solutions.Engages appropriate subject matter resources to effectively resolve technical issues.Mentors others to enhance their technical competence and its application to achieve more effective technical solutions.Coaches others in promoting, defining, analyzing, and providing superior technical solutions to business problems.Provides effective solutions to moderate technical challenges through strong technical competence, effectively examining implications of events and issues.Organizes and prioritizes the sequence of steps to be taken to remedy the situation.Identifies many possible causes for a problem based on prior experience and current research.Quantifies the costs, benefits, risks and chances for success before recommending a course of action.Approaches a complex problem by breaking it down into its component parts.Chooses among a diverse set of analytical tools according to the nature of the situation.Seeks discrepancies and inconsistencies in available information; explains variances.

Summary Pay Range:

$126,000.00 - $189,000.00

Compensation and benefits offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, job level, market location, job-related knowledge, skills, individual performance and experience. Please note that salary is only one component of total compensation at Caterpillar.
