DRI Project Manager, Disaster Recovery and Investigations

Amazon’s Global Realty Organization is seeking a Disaster Recovery Project Manager to support cross-functional teams in managing physical repairs and recovery of buildings and assets following disaster events in North America. This incumbent will be part of a team of project managers on the Disaster Recovery & Investigation (DRI) team within Global Realty - Risk Operations & Resilience (ROR).
This candidate will manage construction and restoration vendors, driving efficient decision making throughout the physical repair and recovery process. They will use project management core competencies in building construction, equipment maintenance, and/or restoration services. They will also support inventory assessment and disposition efforts for disasters involving damage to inventory.
Due to the nature of the role in supporting Amazon facilities facing the aftermath of a disaster, this role has the ability to sit virtually within the US with easy access to air travel. The person in this role will participate in on-call rotations (including after hours, weekends, and holidays) for emergency response support. The role requires travel up to 40% within the US, Canada, and Mexico on short notice.
Key job responsibilities
- Advise site leadership during emergency response calls on facility re-entry, including recommending mitigations to emerging hazards and consultation with qualified professionals to access structure, utilities, equipment, health and environmental impacts.
- Rotate on-call for crisis events, providing remote triage, staging of key vendors, and general management and oversight of vendors to manage cost and streamline recovery.
- Deploy and/or provide dedicated remote support for developing and executing the recovery plan for damaged assets.
- Where local resources are constrained, provide field-based rapid hazard assessments and damage assessments of buildings, equipment, and inventory leveraging the appropriate internal and external experts.
- Identify critical path for facility and operational resumption, considering creative solutions to mitigate the operational impacts through partial physical recovery strategies.
- Develop reconstruction and repair schedules, considering all critical dependencies, for assessing, investigating and repairing the facility.
- Partner with critical on-site stakeholders and contributors in the recovery, including Operations, Construction, Maintenance, Safety, and Engineering, leading disparate teams through their respective roles and responsibilities in the triage, repair and recovery of the impacted facilities.
- Develop reconstruction and repair schedules, considering all critical dependencies, for assessing, investigating and repairing the facility.
- Partner with critical on-site stakeholders and contributors in the recovery, including Operations, Construction, Maintenance, Safety, and Engineering, leading disparate teams through their respective roles and responsibilities in the triage, repair and recovery of the impacted facilities.
- Lead logistical coordination of Disaster Recovery vendors, supporting creative and safe solutions for optimal recovery.
- Drive and monitor recovery efforts for major events until repairs are complete and operations resumed, including participation and/or leading daily vendor meetings and internal stakeholder calls, ranging from site leadership to executive management.
- Provide ongoing management of key service providers, debriefing during and after events, and driving continuous improvement to response efforts.
- Collect and report on key metrics of disaster events, throughout each recovery.
- Work closely with Operations, Loss Prevention, Risk Management, and Safety on investigation efforts.
- Participate and lead in after-action reviews.
- Support the Disaster Recovery & Investigation team during activation, including travel to disaster events where you will support launching new investigations into origin and cause, managing evidence, and ensuring chain of custody is maintained.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives using metric-based methods to track and analyze key recovery metrics focused on time, cost, and quality.
