We produce high-grade iron ore, the key component in steel widely used in construction and manufacturing across the world. Our activities include all aspects – exploration; mining; processing and blending; shipping; marketing and selling. In South Africa, we have mining operations in the Northern Cape province, as well as a head office in Centurion, Gauteng, and a port operation in Saldanha Bay, Western Cape.

Job Description

As our Cost Controller your responsibilities will include but not limited to:

Safety, Health, and EnvironmentAdhere to all safety, health and environmental practices and requirements.SHE policies and procedures:Supply “over cost” expenditure information as Finance requires in a timely and justified manner through the analyses of monthly cost reports to eliminate deviation from the budget.Control budget availability and manage costs effectively before making commitments and expenditures.Monitor financial evaluation of business initiatives (cost and revenue ideas) to avoid deviations.Conduct project evaluations as and when initiated by business to project profitability.Maintain appropriate stakeholder relationships, enhancing the corporate profile.Maintain internal and external relations, including interacting with external providers or other functions responsible for ensuring that business needs are met and employees are satisfied.Monitor the section's expenditure within the approved budget to ensure effective cost control and savings.Enforce Anglo American compliance requirements and ensure teams' adherence to legal policies and corporate governance principles.Assist in estimating labour requirements, required project equipment, supplies, contracted services, and costs; prepare cost estimates and monitor project expenditures.Assist in preparing estimates for proposed change orders and updating project plans and forecasts with new information on change order approval.Assist with integrating estimates with project schedules to achieve phased timing of costs and resources.Monitor monthly expenses and process invoices.Assist in preparing and reviewing the cost estimate and cash-flow forecast and ensuring alignment with the Scope, WBS, and Schedule.Assist in developing an integrated cost-control plan incorporating all stakeholders and technical functions.Responsible for cost forecasting and providing accurate cost reporting.

 

 

This role is in Project & Development (P&D) department on a band 6.10 level reporting to the Manager Project Services

QualificationsNational Diploma in Financial Accounting/Quantity Surveying/Engineering (NQF6)B-degree in Financial Accounting/Quantity Surveying/Engineering (NQF7)Qualification in Cost Engineering (AACEi)SA Drivers Licence

Technical Knowledge

3-5 years of experience in financial planning, analysis, and reporting in a construction and contractor management environment.Knowledge and experience of Mining and related operations environment.Cost management system experience is preferable (e.g., Prism, Contruent).Understand Project Management and the application thereof.Knowledge of financial aspects and accounting principles, along with solid skills in execution and financial control.Record of accomplishment in continuous improvement.Understand procurement processes and systems.Knowledge of contract management.
