Breaking News Correspondent, Finance and Markets

Reuters is seeking an experienced and ambitious Breaking News Correspondent, Finance and Markets to run a social media- and contacts-driven operation that will dig into day-to-day developments in banking and financial markets.

 

Working with a dedicated team split between New York and Bangalore, the correspondent will aim to develop and to expand a contact book of bankers, traders, investors and brokers that will deliver leads on original and exclusive stories and keep tabs on the wealth of gossip that seeps out of financial markets daily.

 

They will be a constant presence on Twitter and Reddit, building relationships with the investors and traders who hang out, swap banter and drop actionable tidbits on social media, with a view to breaking more news and improving the quality of market intelligence that we receive.

 

The ideal candidate must be a self-starting and ambitious correspondent with the skills and ambition to build relationships at some of the world’s biggest financial companies. S/he will cover everything from Wall Street banks and funding deals to unexplained stock market surges and the collapse of investment funds like Archegos – stories that will grace the Front Page of Eikon and reuters.com.

 

About the role :

S/he will have a track record of breaking news, building strong sources and covering spot stories with the accuracy, speed, context and freedom from bias that our customers demand. An ability to write with clarity, speed and expertise is essential. The successful candidate will work closely with both the Finance and Markets teams in Bangalore, writing regularly for our Stocks Buzz service and become part of our stocks reporting bench for major market reports. S/he will be able to communicate effectively with colleagues in North America and around the world to ensure smooth co-operation on stories. We expect the candidate to write straightforward stories daily and to raise the alarm on bigger and more complicated issues that demand more resources and attention. Knowledge of banking and/or other financial sectors is essential.
